Practical technology help

Show me the spreadsheet you keep copying. The website you've outgrown. The software you're paying for but barely using.

I'll help you figure out what to do with it.

Let's talk about it ↗

A website might be where we start.

I'd like to understand the rest of the business, too.

I enjoy working with people who make something: manufacturers, breweries, artists, product brands, and creative businesses. I also work with service businesses, including therapy practices.

“Our website doesn't show what we can do.”

We can rethink how you present the business, make it easier to inquire, or open up a way to sell directly to customers.

Websites and online stores

“Too much of this still goes through me.”

Let's walk through the work. We might connect existing tools, improve reporting, or make a process easier to hand off to your team.

Operations, integrations, and business data

“I need someone to help me figure this out.”

Bring me into the decision before you buy another system. I can help evaluate the options, implement changes, and stay involved as the business develops.

Technical advice and ongoing work

These are examples of starting points. You don't need to know which service to ask for.

From my current workManufacturing / Client anonymous

Helping an owner get operational work off his desk.

I'm building an application for a small manufacturing business that processes documents with AI and makes timesheet and expense data easier to work with.

But part of the work was helping the owner use more of the inventory system he already had. That avoided additional software purchases and made the data he was collecting more useful.

What's changing
Employees can take on work that used to sit with the owner.
What that makes possible
More of his attention goes to sales and improving the business.
The reported result
The owner reports saving tens of hours each week.

This is an ongoing project. The application and the way the team uses it continue to improve together.

I may tell you that you don't need new software.

If your existing system can do the job, I'd rather help you use it properly. Building custom code is a last option because it comes with maintenance and dependencies that we should be clear about.

We'll make decisions together.

You know the business. I can explain the technical choices and their tradeoffs. We need both perspectives to get something useful.

I want you to try things early.

When the risk is low, let's get a basic solution into your hands and learn from using it. Work your customers will see, and changes with more at stake, need more review.

AI needs a reason to be there.

It can be useful for extracting information from documents and preparing work for someone to review. I'll use it where there's a clear benefit, manageable risk, and appropriate human involvement.

You should understand what you're committing to.

I prefer accounts and tools you can own and manage. If custom software depends on my infrastructure, we'll discuss maintenance, costs, and the practical limits of a handoff before we start.

I'm Jordan.

Jordan at work on the New York Stock Exchange trading floor
On the NYSE trading floor at 19.

I grew up watching my parents run small businesses. It's why I like working directly with owners and seeing what goes into the things they make.

At 19, I was working at the New York Stock Exchange as a trade analyst and in quality assurance. I've been a software developer for nine years, with experience at two of the largest asset managers in the country.

That combination matters to how I work. I want to understand what a decision does for the business, as well as how to implement it.

Point Overlook Ventures is my way of bringing that experience to smaller companies. You'll work with me directly. I like visiting a shop or workspace when I can, asking questions, and seeing the process for myself.
